Registration & Contest Rules

Registration
A contribution of $25 is suggested.

100% of all profits go to the Pennypack Trust to sustain the beautiful Pennypack Preserve natural area for all to enjoy. You are welcome to make a larger donation along with your registration fee.

Registration will enable you to submit 5 images in 8 categories with a maximum of 2 images per category.

All submitted photos will be judged by a panel of photography experts, who will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries in each of the categories. Additional photos in each category may be selected for Honorable Mention.  Except where otherwise noted (see Categories) judges will be instructed to favor realistic photos over computer-enhanced photos.  Judging will take place prior to the Slideshow and all images will remain anonymous throughout the judging process.

Awards will be announced at a slideshow in 2022 in the Pennypack Trust's Visitor Center.

Contest Rules

Rule #1 Images must be shot within the boundaries of the Pennypack Preserve: north of Welsh Road and south of Davisville Road.  In addition, photos may be taken on the rail trail between Welsh Road and Byberry Road.

Rule #2 Images must be shot between January 1, 2021 and February 28, 2022.

Rule #3 Images must be submitted by 4:00 pm on February 28.

Rule #4 Multiple photographers, students, friends and/or family members may collaborate as a team as long as one person from the team registers the team and submits up to 5 images on behalf of the team.

Rule #5 Digital manipulation of images should be minimal and convey a strong sense of realism except where noted in the contest rules.

Rule #6 Participants are not required to submit 5 images; you may choose to submit fewer.  Certainly do not submit more than 5 images or your submission will be delayed. You are limited to a maximum of two (2) images per category, but not more than 5 total images.

Rule #7 Please follow the Submission Guidelines when submitting images. Having the appropriate filename for each image in your submission is important as it allows us to track all the images, identify the winners, and to contact you if we find a mistake in your submission.

Rule #8 Please respect all the usage rules of the Pennypack Preserve when shooting!  Remember that certain areas of the Pennypack Preserve are off limits to dogs, the usage of bicycles and, yes, sometimes even people! As much as we enjoy getting outdoors and having fun, we must respect the Pennypack Preserve as home to other forms of life. Reading and following the rules set forth by the Pennypack Trust will help preserve and restore fragile habitats. Thank you for cooperating!

NEW-- RULE #9
Use of Photos for Promotion of the Pennypack Trust

Chris Mendel, Director of the Trust, has expressed a strong interest in utilizing photos submitted to the contest to help promote the Trust and the Photo Contest Committee supports this effort. To facilitate this, we are asking that all photos submitted to the contest be eligible to be used for the sole purpose of promoting the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust without any fee or other form of compensation, and without further notification or permission. The photographer’s name will be credited in each use. If these images would be used in a revenue generating product, then that photographer would be contacted regarding revenue sharing or specific license.

Enjoy!
